Adoption Program

View our adoptable pets

Dogs and cats are prepared for adoption as quickly as possible. They are professionally photographed and networked through a number of internet pet listing sites, the bdar.org webpage, social media, and mobile adoption drives.

Adoption campaigns and promoting the desirability of shelter pets is a high priority for BDAR’s outreach efforts. Preparing animals for adoption and effectively promoting them to keep them moving quickly through the foster program costs the organization in excess of $75K per year.

The success rates of the foster and adoption programs speak for themselves. Every year since 2008, BDAR’s adoption numbers have increased significantly. For the first time in 2014, more than 400 dogs were adopted in a calendar year. In 2019, BDAR adopted out almost 600 cats & dogs. Our numbers continue to grow! Since its inception, the organization has placed more than 5,000 dogs transferred from regional shelters in adoptive homes.

Before adoption, all pets are provided with:

  • spay or neuter surgery

  • vaccinations

  • microchip

BDAR also offers the opportunity for adopters to:

  • Receive a free wellness exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarian clinics

  • Receive 30 days of optional pet health insurance

  • A lifetime “membership” in our extended family of adopters. We’re always around if you have questions, concerns, or just want to share updates with us.

ABOUT THE APPLICATION PROCESS

The following information is requested so we can assist you in the selection of a new dog or cat. The application, and a consultation with a BDAR representative, are designed to help you find a pet most compatible to your lifestyle.

TO APPLY, YOU MUST:

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Complete this application in its entirety

  • Have dogs and cats in the home current on rabies vaccinations

  • Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord

  • Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment, and proper care for a pet

  • Be prepared to pay an adoption fee at the time of adoption

Please note: if your pets are not current on their rabies vaccine, we will not be able to process your application. You will be asked to re-apply once this has been accomplished and can be verified by a veterinarian.

ABOUT OUR ADOPTION FEES:

BDAR utilizes a variable pricing structure for all of its adoptable animals. Adoption fees are determined based on an animal's perceived desirability, age, training or medical investment, and the length of time they have been available for adoption. Some animals are priced higher than others. These animals' adoption fees provide a legacy gift for others in the program who may need additional resources in order to get the same chance in a forever home.

The average expense to BDAR per animal can range from $500-$1,000. BDAR's nonprofit status allows us to offset these expenses with charitable contributions and fundraising efforts, but the adoption fees we collect contribute significantly to our ability to continue this life-saving effort. If the pet you want is priced higher than another, you can feel good knowing your money is helping other animals get the care they need as well.

THE FINE PRINT

Completion of this application does not guarantee adoption of a BDAR pet, neither does it commit you to an adoption should you be approved. Please allow 72 hours for confirmation that your application was received. If you do not get an e-mailed response verifying that your application was received, please contact us as we have had a rare problem not getting submitted applications through our server. Thank you.
